The 2024 Working Committee of CMWH is organizing a one-day Pop-Up Women's Museum, supported by funding from the City of Kingston's Heritage Fund.
This event will take place in Kingston, Ontario on October 5th, 2024 and kicks off Women’s History Month in Canada.
The key objective of this event is to provide the public with a broader appreciation for women's role in shaping Kingston’s cultural, social, and political landscape.
This objective will be achieved through the following outcomes:
Community Involvement and Engagement: Project staff will connect with Kingston-based organizations, offering them space at Kingston's HERStory Pop-Up Museum to display and celebrate women's contributions to their groups.
Education: All members of the public will be welcome to attend the Pop-Up Museum, which will be hosted in the City of Kingston’s Memorial Hall. Through their attendance, community members will have the opportunity to learn about women's historical achievements and contributions, fostering a greater understanding of women's societal role.
Empowerment & Community Pride: By showcasing the accomplishments of women from various fields and backgrounds, the event will inspire and empower individuals, particularly women and girls, to pursue their goals and dreams. A pop-up women's museum will instill a sense of pride in the Kingston community, showcasing its commitment to inclusivity and gender equality.
Cross-Cultural Enrichment & Connections: This event will add to the community's cultural richness by providing a space to celebrate the diversity of women's historical significance.
Inter-generational Connections: The event will facilitate conversations and connections between generations, allowing older generations to share their experiences and wisdom with younger ones.
Networking Opportunities: The event will serve as a hub for networking and collaboration among Kingston community members, organizations, activists, and educators interested in women's history and issues.
